CREW IN A BOX®
U.S. Patent No. 11,533,421
The industry-leading plug-and-play, remote production solution
Voted the best technological innovation of 2020 in broadcast & media creation and acquisition.
Hi, I’m Ira Rosensweig, co-creator of Crew In A Box, the world’s first professional-quality, plug-and-
play, remote production solution. Crew In A Box was inspired by years of experience directing
celebrities in commercials and promos, and a desire to provide clients, especially during the pandemic,
with a safe, easy to use, yet high production value product and service.
In fact, the video you’re watching right now was shot, mic-ed, and aside from the ambient light in the
room, also lit by Crew In A Box. I’m also reading this script from its integrated teleprompter. And the
special thing about it is, that I didn’t have to assemble or control the settings for anything.
While Crew In A Box is useful for a large variety of productions, including narrative work, it particularly
excels in interviews, roundtable discussions where talent are in different locations, and direct to camera
addresses, especially with celebrities acting as spokespeople for brands and networks. It is also a
perfect solution for variety and talk shows with hosts and their guests filming at home.
With Crew In A Box, you can achieve the highest, broadcast quality production possible and keep your
on-camera-talent happy by not burdening them with setting up or controlling any equipment.
In this initial phase, Crew In A Box is only available through my production company Wavemaker
Creative. But if you’re interested in renting or buying one, please drop us a line and we will let you know
when units become available to the public. Feel free to reach out by email or phone anytime to discuss
your project in more detail. Thank you.
Remote production no longer requires compromising production value or the comfort of your talent. With Crew in a Box® technology, on-camera talent simply opens the box and plugs it in, automatically connecting the system over bonded cellular networks to a remote operator who controls every aspect of the shoot, including the integrated 6k cinema camera, LED lights, microphones, and teleprompter/Interrotron.
Agency, clients, and other crew members join a video conference where they can view a beautiful, high-resolution feed from the camera and participate as if they were on set. The experience and results, both in terms of ease of use and quality, remain unparalleled in the remote production world.
“Crew in a Box is likely going to redefine the remote production game entirely.”
- Scott Edwards, EVP of Creative Advertising, Fox Entertainment

CREW IN A BOX® HAS SHOT PROJECTS FOR
HOW IT WORKS
Crew In A Box arrives fully assembled at your talent’s doorstep inside a cubic, 2 foot wide, rock-solid,
military-grade case, which has been completely disinfected. After determining the best location for set
up, using location photos or a videoconference, talent simply:
Opens the 3-foot-wide LED cinema light
Repositions the shotgun microphone to the front of the case and clips on the optional lavalier
Plugs the unit in, and
Powers it on…
Crew In A Box automatically connects over the Internet to a highly skilled, award-winning team of
filmmakers, allowing talent to focus on what they do best. The Internet connection is achieved without
talent needing to connect the unit to their home WiFi network, eliminating any security concerns. And
once connected, we control every setting for each component of the system remotely.
The integrated camera is a 6k Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, which shoots 12-bit RAW files with
cinema-quality depth of field and 13 stops of dynamic range. The image rivals that of any camera
available today. As the client, you view the direct output from camera, and can see all adjustments
made by our DP remotely, some of which include focus, iris, ISO, shutter speed, and audio levels. We
can also do a live rough color grade for monitoring, but we record RAW to preserve your color options in
post. The default lens is a 35mm Canon prime, but if your job requires something different, we can
swap it out. Slow motion is available up to 120 frames per second, and the 6k resolution of the camera
allows you to effectively shoot multiple frame sizes in just one take. The system also enables immediate
playback of takes at any time.
Crew In A Box’s 200 watt LED cinema light is divided into 3 panels, each of which can be controlled
separately, including full range dimming and a wide range of color temperature shifts. By remotely
adjusting these settings, we are able to provide various looks for your talent.
On a typical Crew In A Box job, a small crew, including all agency people and clients, join a
videoconference. All participants can view the direct feed from the camera. Like any on-set shoot,
clients can give live feedback to the director on performance or any other aspect of the production, in a
private chatroom, or by phone.
At first, the director appears on the integrated beamsplitter acrylic, which the camera is shooting
through, to talk the talent through the shoot. Then, depending upon the type of job, the beamsplitter
can be used for various purposes, including:
1) As a teleprompter for direct-to-camera addresses, or
2) As an Interrotron, which displays live video of a director, interviewer, or other on-camera talent,
so your talent can simultaneously look into their eyes while also looking directly into the camera. The
Interrotron function can be expanded to display the live video of multiple participants of a roundtable
discussion as well.
Crew in a Box also has an integrated 2nd monitor, which can easily be removed from the side of the unit
and placed on a desk to create an off-camera eyeline for talent. It can display the image of a director or
other talent, or act as a teleprompter as well.
Talent can also see themselves on the beamsplitter acrylic or the 2nd monitor if they like, which comes
in handy if they have a hair and makeup person with them.
Livestreaming options are available, but the full power of the camera is utilized when recording high-
resolution video inside the box. We can send that footage to you right after the shoot by initiating a
remote transfer, ship you a hard drive, or, you can have Wavemaker Creative handle all post production.
Since the camera image is so good, if you prefer a setting other than the talent’s home, one amazing
thing we can do is fully replace the background without the need of greenscreen.
Every production is different, and therefore customizable, but in general:
1) A fully disinfected Crew in a Box® unit is shipped in a rock-solid, military-grade case to your talent.
2) Pre-production or a contemporaneous video chat determines the best location for talent to set it up.
3) Talent simply lifts the lid, and plugs it in. Then, using bonded cellular technology, Crew in a Box® automatically connects over the Internet to a remote operator. This is achieved without talent needing to connect it to their home WiFi network, eliminating concerns of compromised security.
4) Once connected, the operator remotely controls every aspect and component of the system, including the camera, lights, teleprompter, and microphones. On-camera talent doesn’t need to do anything other than help position the box for the optimal frame, guided by the operator or director.
5) Other crew, along with all agency folks and clients, communicate with talent and each other in a videoconference, viewing a beautiful high definition feed from the camera, with no latency.
6) When the shoot begins, the director appears on the integrated beamsplitter glass, which the camera is shooting through, to direct the talent. Then, depending upon the type of job, that beamsplitter can be used for various purposes, including:
-As a teleprompter for direct-to-camera addresses;
-As an Interrotron, which displays the live video of the director or other on-camera talent, for interviews;
-To display the live video of all participants in a roundtable discussion, so all are looking at each other as they look into camera; and
-To display the camera view of talent for self-vanity or hair and makeup artists.
A 2nd monitor, which can display all of the above options, can be removed from the side of the unit and placed to create an off-axis eyeline.
7) High-resolution video, up to 6k, is recorded inside the box. After the shoot, that footage can be immediately uploaded, transcoded, or shipped. Clients can also choose to livestream the shoot.
